Zero-Waste Day

Earth Day April 22, 2009

  • Scope: We will endeavor to reduce the waste generated from children bringing lunch from home by 90%.
  • Process:
1 week prior to Earth Day, children will be asked to dispose of waste in two buckets
  • Waste generated from lunches brought from home.
  • Waste generated from lunches purchased at school.
An average weight or bag count will be collected over a five day period.
Each of the two days prior to Earth Day, lunch time programs will be conducted to educate students.
On Zero-Waste Day, the weight or bag count of the waste generated from lunches brought from home will be compared to the prior week's average.
Results will be reported on Thursday, April 23rd in the morning.
Teachers will be asked to submit "lessons learned" from their students to be included in the weekly courier.
